San Francisco 49ers Latest News: Alex Boone Rips Officials after Game Against the Cardinals
It's not often that you see a game where one team is accounted for several penalties that result to 81 yards. That is what exactly happened to the San Francisco 49ers in a 19-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
49ers guard Alex Boone couldn't hide his frustration with the game officials, and he's not alone with that sentiment. As reported by ESPN, Coach Bruce Arians of the Cardinals admitted that the officiating could have been better. "The officials were struggling mightily," the coach said as quoted by the same report.
There were several questionable penalties called, but the most contentious is that one on the game winning drive. A "roughing the passer call" was called against defensive lineman Quinton Dial, which he justified by saying that it was all because Carson Palmer actually ducked into him. Because of the penalty flag, a sack was called off and allowing the ball to be moved to midfield. Before that particular game-clinching play, another questionable penalty was called wherein the 49ers were whistled and raised a flag because of sideline interference.

Boone isn't holding back what he feels was good reason to call out the officials. "I'm not really too worried about getting fined. I thought those refs sucked," he said. "You call running into a player when nobody even touched you," the feisty guard added.
Boone further said that the league might be turning away from being a man's game; that he's sick about it. He is convinced that several terrible calls were called during the game, including that last one that allowed the Steelers to win the game.
Overall, the 49ers were handed out 13 penalties. Even some players other than Boone couldn't hide what they wanted to say about the officiating. Anquan Boldin (wide receiver) said that they were actually playing two teams at the same time, referring to the second team as the game officials.
