Scarlett Johansson Breaks Silence on Ryan Reynolds Divorce: 'The Loneliest Thing'

Scarlett Johansson opened up about her divorce from Ryan Reynolds for the first time in an interview this week.

The "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" actress was briefly married to Reynolds from 2008 to 2011. Although it has been three years since their divorce, Johansson has never commented on her split from the "Green Lantern" star until now.

"It was a very lonely thing. It's like the loneliest thing you'll ever do, in some ways," the actress admitted while speaking to C Magazine. "I've had a fair amount of time to process the experience and go forward. I continue to get to know myself better as I get older, and that helps me in my relationships."

Today, Reynolds is remarried to "Gossip Girl" actress Blake Lively. Alternately, Johansson is engaged and expecting a child with French journalist Romain Dauriac. In a different interview, the actress revealed that her past experience has better prepared her for marriage this time around.

"I feel I know now more of what I need in a relationship, what I want in a relationship," Johansson explained to Glamour magazine. "And I know I have more tools to communicate, not just with my partner, but with myself. That's not necessarily any reflection of who I was married to or what was happening in my marriage, but really where I was in my life."

Looking ahead, Johansson is expecting her first child just shy of her 30th birthday this year. Moreover, the starlet is starring in four major films in 2014 alone, and has plans to direct one herself soon.

"I'm excited about accomplishing some big creative and life goals this year," she told C Magazine. "I feel very positive about the future."
