This Happens to Be The Darkest Season

Aside from being the darkest season, it was also rumored to be the last one. However, co-creator Steven Moffat stated that the future of the show is still uncertain. With the growth of Sherlock Holmes' (Benedict Cumberbatch) character in each season, there are still things that would not change. Sherlock is still a sensitive man, though he always rationalizes things. As the story unfolds, he becomes closer to people, yet aloof about certain things. As time passed by, Sherlock has grown to be a better person and do things his way. In a nutshell, Sherlock Holmes has a unique personality compared to other people.

In a report, Benedict Cumberbatch stated that this season is a really dark story; it feels like the end-of-the-world kind of darkness, especially with the darkest villain, Toby Jones. Moffat added that there will be a lot of humor in the show, but viewers will still feel how gloomy this will be.

Original Cast Remain

The show, on the other hand, has been rumored to have a replacement for Benedict Cumberbatch. However, it has been clarified in a report that he will still be Sherlock Holmes and that the story will be more intense this time. When Sherlock comes back, he will be confronted by a new villain and the adventure will continue. There will be a new plan to destroy Holmes and this will be his challenge in this upcoming season.

In Season 4, "Sherlock" will see his friend, Watson, and his wife again. His enemy, Professor Jim Moriarty, will be played by Andrew Scott who is confirmed to come back to the show. This time, Sherlock will have to face Moriarty and the new villain.

"Sherlock" Season 4 will be back with more intensity in 2017. However, there has been no specific date of the show's release yet.
