Sinkhole Ballpark? Sinkhole Appears by Pitchers Mound at Rangers Ballpark (VIDEO)

A sinkhole has appeared at Rangers ballpark this week, shocking workers at the stadium and forcing the cancellation of a batting practice scheduled to take place on the field on Tuesday.

It is believed that a burst pip under the infield at Rangers Ballpark is the cause of the sinkhole, which appeared just behind the pitcher's mound.

A batting practice scheduled to take place on the field for both the Texas Rangers and the Cleveland Indians was canceled as ground staff worked on the problem.

According to reports, workers had to dig down more than 3 feet into the field to reach the pipe, which was used to water the infield area.

The work on the pipe was completed just an hour before the game between the Rangers and Indians was scheduled to start, and the ground staff quickly placed back the dirt and the infield grass as they finished the job.

Some fans have joked that the Cleveland Indians were behind the problems as they were trying to avoid playing after 12 straight losses on the road. Cleveland manager Terry Francona responded, "I didn't do it. We're not there yet. We're frustrated, but we're not there."

Tuesday game went ahead and saw the Indians claim a rare away win as they beat the Rangers 5-2. That result means the Indians move to 31-33, where as the high flying Rangers slip slightly to 38-26.

The Indians won the game after some good work in the middle innings, scoring a single at the top of the fourth, and three runs in the fifth. Another single in the seventh inning put them 5-0 up, and although the Rangers pushed to rally at the end – scoring singles in the eight and ninth innings – it ultimately was too little too late.

Here is a video showing the Rangers' stadium workers trying to fix the problem before Tuesday's game:
