'Sister Wives' Patriarch Warns Daughter's Suitor: 'Kissing is Dangerous'

He may have five wives, but polygamist patriarch Kody Brown is as conservative as it gets when it comes to the rules of dating and relationships. In the season premiere of "Sister Wives," viewers learned a bit more about the Brown family's stance on intimacy before marriage, which is quite heavily frowned upon.

"When you kiss, the person that you kiss, their hormones go into your mouth and it registers certain things that will stimulate both the heart and the body for other reasons," Brown tells daughter Mykelti's boyfriend, John. "I am very well aware of how the heart works at 17 and 18 versus at 25."

This is the first time viewers have seen a young man approach Brown about dating one of his daughters; in the family tradition, the would-be suitor has to get his permission before even starting to date. If he meets with Brown's approval, he is allowed to begin seeing the young girl but under strict observation and with family rules.

Mykelti is the daughter of Brown and his wife, Christine. The four then sit down together in the family library, where Brown delivers his opinion on dating and intimacy. Brown has four other wives and multiple children by them, which means that he will have quite a few "heart-to-heart" conversations with suitors.

"What we want to prevent as parents are the danger zones," Brown continued in his speech. "Kissing, holding hands that all leads to broken hearts. If you get too close and you get too physical the nature of it, you're going to break up, I want to say, 'Hey listen, have a friendship.'"

Brown and his family are practicing polygamists with relatively conservative family values. They place a high importance on faith and family above all else. In a way, they have a connection with the also well-known Duggar family, who practice courtship instead of traditional dating. The Duggar children who are courting do not have any intimate interaction with their significant others until their wedding days.

"Don't go for it until you're ready to go for it," Brown finally warns John, who seems to accept his advice.
