Sony Announces Software Launch Lineup for PlayStation Vita Console (VIDEO)

Sony has finally unveiled the list of video game releases set to coincide with the U.S. launch of the PlayStation Vita handheld.

An extensive list of the titles being offered by first-party and third-party studios was unveiled on the PlayStation blog website. Sony is now focused on getting its U.S. customers prepared for the PlayStation Vita's launch. This announcement comes days after making the Vita available in Japan.

Sony has listed the first-party games that will be available to gamers on Feb. 15, 2012:

- Escape Plan (PlayStation Network Only)
- Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational
- Wipeout 2048
- Uncharted: Golden Abyss

The hardware and software company also listed the third-party games that would be released on Feb. 22, 2012:

- Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Capcom Entertainment, Inc.)
- Lumines Electronic Symphony (Ubisoft, Inc.)
- F1 2011 (Codemasters)
- Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition (Sega of America)

The next titles that were listed are said to be releasing sometime within the launch window of the PlayStation Vita:

- Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7 (Warner Bros. Interactive Ent. Inc.)
- Ridge Racer (Namco Bandai Games America Inc.)
- Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (NIS America, Inc.)
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus (Tecmo Koei America Corporation)

Even more video games were listed under each category stated above on the PlayStation blog site.

John Koller, director of hardware marketing for Sony, wrote about the company’s plan for its newest console. "SCE Worldwide Studios, along with our publishing partners, have been working extremely hard to build games that provide you all with new ways to experience gaming on the go," he wrote.

"There will be 25 games available on day 1, and in total more than 100 games currently in development. Pricing for all software will range from $9.99-$49.99 (MSRP) and will be available for purchase at retail locations as well as downloadable on the PlayStation Network."

Koller also spoke about the additional features and accessories coming with the new handheld. "Every PS Vita system will be packed with six AR Play Cards and one voucher to download a handful of augmented reality mini games called AR Play via the PlayStation Network," he said.

"All first party games along with a selection of accessories and third party games will be available for purchase a week early (Feb. 15) in conjunction with the availability date of the First Edition PS Vita Bundle."

Hardware accessories, such as memory cards and headsets, will support the Vita handheld. Some of the items that were announced by Sony include the 4GB memory card ($19.99), USB Cable ($14.99) and the portable charger ($49.99).

Sony's PlayStation Vita will officially launch in the U.S. on Feb. 22, 2012. For those looking to get an extensive look at the PlayStation Vita, IGN has uploaded an unboxing of the Japanese model:
