Square Enix Pulls Out 'Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward' for Mac

Square Enix halted OS X sales for "Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward after a number of issues prompted negative feedback from Mac users.

Two weeks after its launch on Mac, Square Enix has suspended all sales of "Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward" for OS X due to user complaints.

Last minute efforts to optimize the game and improve performances resulted in the release of incorrect requirements for the Mac version, causing several gamers to discover their system didn't meet the game's requirements.

Despite the developer's plan to perform last minute maintenance on the game before its launch, the game was sold earlier than scheduled due to a miscommunication with retailers. The downloadable pre-release title came with a number of performance issues resulting in poor feedback from gamers.

"Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward" will remain suspended for Mac until the company can provide users with exact information and detailed technical requirements for the product on OS X.

"FF14" director and producer Naoki Yoshida issued an apology on the game's official homepage, saying he was taking full responsibility for the problematic launch on Mac, assuring other users the game's service will not be suspended.

Meanwhile, Square Enix has also announced it will be issuing refunds for Mac users who purchased the game and discovered it incompatible with their system, providing a form on its website Support Center for the purpose.

Mac users who purchased the game via retailers were encouraged to fill out a consultation form on the game's website if they were experiencing problems getting their money back.

"Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward" continues to be available on PC, PS3 and PS4 platforms, and while Yoshida assured players Square Enix will be working on fixing the Mac system requirements issue, his statement didn't include when "FF14" would be available again for OS X users.
