'Star Trek Beyond' News: Justin Lin Appreciates What JJ Abrams Brought to Franchise

It was reported that the upcoming installment of the "Star Trek" franchise is expected to move away from the previously released sequel.

With a new director on board, it was revealed that "Star Trek Beyond" will be disregarding J.J. Abram's most recent installment titled "Star Trek Into Darkness." Director Justin Lin is expected to ignore the film in order to move forward with his own.

According to an interview with Birth. Movies. Death, he stated, "[Co-writers] Simon [Pegg] and Doug [Jung] and I have spent some time on that. [laughs] Star Trek has been around for 50 years, and every filmmaker that comes on has a different point of view, and it's a universe that can support many points of view and journeys and adventures. I embraced what JJ has brought — without him this whole group wouldn't be together — so I'm definitely very appreciative of him. At the same time, do we address it? No, but we don't discount it. We don't sit there and say it doesn't exist, it's part of this universe now."

It was said that the previous film had introduced many aspects that will not be brought into the upcoming film. These include the idea of Khan blood and crew being immortal, as well as the idea of interstellar beaming.

In addition, the film was also accused of objectifying Carol Marcus, playd by Alice Eve. With that, Lin will no longer be carrying out the relationship between Captain Kirk and Carol Marus. The director explained how they plan to continue the story from then.

He stated, "What we're doing is appropriate to the two and a half years. It's a continuation in a way, and I don't want to ignore things and act as if they don't exist, so there's an acknowledgement and I think their relationship is consistent to the way it was before."

"Star Trek Beyond" is expected to hit theaters this July 2016.
