Star Wars Episode 8 Plot News: Reason Why Kylo Ren Wears A Mask Revealed

With only months away from the release "Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi," the Star Wars panel at this year's New York Comic-Con revealed some interesting new information regarding the Adam Driver's character Kylo Ren.

At the event, a number of props were put on display for fans accompanied by information panels. Among them was the mask worn by the Jedi drop out which according to the panel, was worn not just as a homage to his grandfather Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker, but also to hide his true identity.

"Kylo Ren is the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, protege of Luke Skywalker, and eventual master of the knights of Ren. He is known as the 'Jedi Killer' among the rank and file of the First Order," the description for the helmet read. "His helmet was crafted to mask his visage and voice, concealing his identity as he delves further into the power of the dark side of the Force."

Who is Ren trying to hide his true identity from? One possible explanation is that he is worried about information regarding his familiar ties spreading throughout the First Order especially considering that it is his family that caused the downfall of the Galactic Empire in the first place.

Aside from the truth behind Ren's mask, the displays also revealed exciting trivia about the new trilogy. Things like the number of guards Leader Snoke, the weapons they have at their disposal, as well as the details on Ren's TIE fighter that point to his piloting skills, all of which were not featured in the first film.

"Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi" is set to hit theaters on Dec. 15 and stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.
