'Star Wars' Episode 8 News: What to Expect

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has just been released in theaters and there is already news about what fans can expect for episode 8 of the franchise.

The whole crew of "Star Wars" episode 8 is excited to work together once again, especially since they have spent the last year preparing for it. They will begin shooting for the sequel this month and the movie itself will premiere on May 26, 2017, according to Den of Geek.

Before, fans had to wait for three years before the next "Star Wars" installment comes out. Now, the waiting period has been cut down to just 19 months, The Wall Street Journal notes.

"We're excited to get back together. We start shooting Episode VIII in January," Den of Geek quotes producer Kathleen Kennedy. "We've been prepping the movie for the last year and (writer-and-director) Rian Johnson has been doing an amazing job."

Episode 8 will be directed by Rian Johnson, and he himself confirmed this information in a Twitter post. Johnson is known for directing the movie "Looper," the report relays.

The title of episode 8, however, is still unconfirmed. What is known is that the cast will include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Domhnall Gleeson, and Oscar Isaac. Other actors rumored to star in the next "Star Wars" franchise are Andy Serkis and Benicio Del Toro.

The events in the upcoming movie will pick up right where "The Force Awakens" left off. Kylo Ren will finish his training with Supreme Leader Snoke and Finn will still be in a recovery state. One of the most-awaited scenes will be the fate of Rey and Luke Skywalker. Fans have been left to wonder whether he will train her or if he will take his father's lightsaber from her, the report details.

More details on "Star Wars" episode 8's plot and characters are expected to surface in the coming months.
