'Star Wars: Episode VIII' News: Working Title Revealed; Gwendoline Christie on Captain Phasma's Mask
Although it will definitely be a while before the official title for "Star Wars: Episode VIII," the next film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, will be revealed, fans now know the working title for the much-anticipated film.
Actress Carrie Fisher, who plays the role of Princess/General Leia in the "Star Wars" film franchise, recently revealed that she has begun filming for "Episode VIII." On Friday, Feb. 19, Fisher posted a snap of her pet dog, Gary, sitting on her chair at Pinewood Studios. The photo, which Fisher shared on Twitter, also gave Star Wars fans the working title for the upcoming film "Space Bear."
While the Internet and social media have basically rendered working titles useless, they are still used today to disguise the true identity of a production and to keep nosy onlookers and paparazzi away from movie sets. The working title for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was "Foodles."

Speaking of "The Force Awakens," actress Gwendoline Christie, who played the role of Captain Phasma in that film, recently opened up to Entertainment Weekly about how she felt about the character never removing her helmet in the film.
"I thought it was a really interesting opportunity because as an actor I'm interested in transformation and different kinds of roles," the actress told EW. According to the "Game of Thrones" actress, the questions she wanted to answer were: What is the role of Captain Phasma about? Who is she? Who is Captain Phasma in the "Force Awakens" story?
"I thought it was a really interesting opportunity to play a female character where we formed an opinion of her based on her actions rather than the way she has been made flesh," Christie explained. "And that concept within a Star Wars movie, a mainstream phenomenon, was very modern and interesting and exciting."
"Star Wars: Episode VIII" opens Dec. 15, 2017.
