'John Wick' Virtual Reality Video Game News 2015: Starbreeze to Create Game

Video game players will soon see "John Wick" as a virtual reality first-person shooter published by game company Starbreeze.

The critically acclaimed 2014 Lionsgate action-thriller starring Keanu Reeves will soon get a first-person shooter virtual reality treatment courtesy of VR game distribution studio WEVR.

The upcoming game has been described as a fully-immersive stand-alone video game based on the characters that have appeared in the "John Wick" film, with most of the first-person shooter action taking place in the infamous Continental Hotel featured in the movie.

Grab, a game development team, will be spearheading John Wick's incorporation into a VR platform, together with the collaboration of "John Wick" film producer Basil Iwanyk and his team.

John Wick's character has been making the rounds of Starbreeze's other titles. He is currently available for download in "PayDay 2," the developer's heist-centered first-person shooter it co-created with Overkill Software.

The upcoming game isn't expected to arrive on the scene until spring next year, when it will be made available for play in existing VR headset products in the market, including SteamVR's upcoming HTC Vive.

The game's teaser demo is included as a part of the HTV Vive World Tour which kicked off in San Diego, California last July 9, and will make its way across North America, and on to Europe in the next few months.

According to a statement released by Lionsgate executive Peter Levin, the "John Wick" VR game is geared to deepen fan engagement, and hasten the character's evolution into one of the studio's next big action franchise.

A sequel to the "John Wick" film is currently in development, and is scheduled for release in theaters in September next year, a few months after the first-person shooter VR game is officially launched.
