Steve Nash Writes Letter to Fans on Facebook Page

Steve Nash, NBA's oldest player and Los Angeles Lakers guard, is currently out for the season due to nerve damage spreading from his neck down to his calves. Even though he is supposedly going through rehab and working back towards his health, recent pictures and a now-deleted video of the NBA player has garnered negative criticisms from his fans.

There were recent pictures of him hiking on Halloween, where he cautioned his followers to be safe during this particular night. Then there was a video of himself hitting a gold ball, which is now deleted. Because of all the backlash he had received in posting recreational media on his social media outlets, he decided to write an open letter on his Facebook page, addressed to his fans.

He starts off his letter with the statement, "I definitely don't want to be a distraction, but I felt it best everyone heard from me in my own words."

He follows with stating his current condition, which he words as "Three bulging disks (a tear in one), stenosis of the nerve route and spondylolisthesis. I suffer from sciatica and after games I often can't sit in the car on the drive home, which has made for some interesting rides."

Nash also states that his current activities, "swinging a golf club, hiking, even hitting a tennis ball or playing basketball at the park," aren't debilitating. "Fortunately those other activities aren't debilitating, but playing an NBA game usually puts me out a couple of weeks. Once you're asked to accelerate and decelerate with Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving it is a completely different demand," he added.

Bryon Scott, Lakers coach, defended Nash after a practice Thursday last week.

"There's a whole lot of people who don't understand the difference between golf and basketball," Scott said. "Unfortunately, you have people like that. The guy is hurt and can't play this year. But that doesn't mean he can't enjoy himself and have some fun while going through rehab and everything else. It probably doesn't look good publicly, but relax."
