'Stranger Things' Season 3 Plot News: Mind Flayer Still a Threat; Next Season to Feature Another Time Jump
Season 2 of "Stranger Things" is finally out on Netflix, and fans who have already consumed all nine episodes are wondering what the next cycle will have in store.
With the success of "Stranger Things," it seems like a given at this point that there will be a third season. After all, the final scene of season 2 saw the Mind Flayer looming over the school, which means the threat from the Upside Down is definitely far from gone.
"They've shut the door on the Mind Flayer, but not only is it still there in the Upside Down, it's very much aware of the kids, and particularly Eleven," co-creator Ross Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter. "It had not encountered her and her powers until that final episode. Now, it knows that she's out there. We wanted to end on a little bit of an ominous note on that level."

Season 2 certainly did a good job of expanding the world of the Upside Down, with many other creatures wreaking havoc in Hawkins, Indiana. While Eleven may have closed the gate to the Upside Down, it seems like it is only temporary. Regardless, the kids celebrated their triumph at the Snow Ball dance and romantic sparks even flew.
The Duffer brothers revealed that many of the kids had their first kiss onscreen, and they have already begun teasing them about potential make-out scenes in season 3. By then, though, the kids would have aged quite a bit more. As a result, the Duffer brothers revealed that there will be another time jump to accommodate for the age difference between seasons.
They are currently working on season 3, but storylines have yet to be determined. While speaking to Variety, Ross and Matt Duffer revealed that they already have potential plot ideas, though there is a huge chance that they will change.
"We have some ideas but it's all too early. All of our ideas will probably change within a month or two. They always do," Matt said.
Similar to season 2, some stories will be nixed or simply postponed. Given that, it is possible that some storylines that were removed from season 2 will make it to the next one.
