'Sunset Overdrive 2' News: Shooter Could Become Multiplatform With The Right Publisher
Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price has once again stated that his company is open to making a "Sunset Overdrive 2." He even went so far as to say that the sequel to their hit third-person shooter could be a multiplatform game but they would "need a partner for that."
Speaking on Insomniac's Twitch stream, Price was asked if whether any of the company's games will make a comeback. To this, he responded with perhaps what fans wanted to hear.
"'Sunset' is something that I know a lot of our fans talk about wanting to see the sequel," he responded. "We need a partner for that. That's a big game; 'Sunset 2' would be a very large-scope game."
Price further explained that Insomniac Games wholly owns the IP (intellectual property) and that a new publisher could potentially make the sequel a multiplatform title. This would be good news for non-Xbox owners as the first game was tied to Microsoft and was touted as one of the console's premiere exclusives.
While it wasn't exactly "Halo"-tier in terms of being a system seller, the game was a creative and enjoyable action title. It also carried many of Insomniac's trademark personality which is probably why fans have been begging the developer for a sequel. The original game's appearance as a Game With Gold pick attracting millions of players also shows how much fans loved the game.
In an interview with Game Informer, Price was asked regarding "Sunset Overdrive 2" being a multiplatform title. To this, the CEO directed attention to Microsoft.
"You'd have to ask Microsoft," said Price. "We are passionate about that franchise, and we own it, so you may see more "Sunset" in the future from us. No promises, and no timeline to speak of, but it is something that represents our willingness to create unexpected experiences."
