Super Mario Bros 3 Released on Wii U Virtual Console and 3DS (VIDEO)

Today Nintendo announced that their legendary NES classic Super Mario Bros. 3 is now available on both the Wii U and 3DS.

The game is being released as part of their GameBoy Advance Virtual Console releases for the Wii U. Two other games came out today, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity ($6.99), and Golden Sun ($7.99). SMB3 is only $4.99, and the only one of the games that is available for both the home console and handheld.

On April 3, the first round of games arrived for $7.99. Advance Wars, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and Metroid Fusion. On April 10, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror and WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgame$! were launched for $6.99.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata made the announcement that these game were coming in February's Nintendo Direct presentation. The first confirmed games for the Virtual Console were: Metroid Fusion, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, with new games being added every month.

Japan first received Super Mario World, WarioWare, Golden Sun, F-Zero, and Advance Wars. On April 30, The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap, Wario Land 4, Mario Tennis Advance, and Mario & Luigi RPG will be added.

A lot of Game Boy Advance games are already available online for the 3DS, and it is questionable as to why the games are not being put out with a focus on handheld. Either way, early comments and reactions for the news have been in favor of the idea as Nintendo continues to bring its classics back.
