'Supergirl' Season 1 Cast News: CBS Show To Feature 'Wonder Woman' Star Lynda Carter?
Following the recent screening of the much anticipated crossover between "Supergirl" and "The Flash," comes the recent casting news that a role player from one of the classic superhero TV series from the 70s could appear in the Melissa Benoist-starrer show.
Executive producers for the CBS TV programming Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti let slip some information pointing to their plans to bring "Wonder Woman" star Lynda Carter into the fold. The latter played the titular heroine and is considered one of the pioneers of female-centric superhero shows.
"We had the perfect role for Lynda Carter," Berlanti told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. "We couldn't work out her schedule. Next year."
Kreisberg chimed in to give his reassurance that the show is really "going to do it," but given the complication of the schedules, and as what Berlanti had already stated, they may have to put the project on hold until next year.
If Kriesberg and Berlanti will indeed push through with the casting plan, the crowned Miss World America 1972 is set to take on a very significant role in "Supergirl." According Berlanti, "she's the female president of the United States."
It is yet to be known if Carter's White House official will have superpowers of her own. However, the fact that she holds under her command the world's strongest military force, it would be enough to consider that she's really force to be reckoned with.
Nonetheless, the possibilities are open for Carter's character to be revealed as someone else of significance.
It has to be noted, meanwhile, that CBS is yet to announce the official renewal of the show for its second season. But given its steady high ratings, it is more likely to stay on air than not. It has to be taken into consideration also that Kreisberg and Berlanti won't be publicly dishing their plans for a "Season 2" if they themselves haven't yet foreseen the future of the show.
"Supergirl" Season 1 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
