Sydney Leathers' Mom on Weiner: 'God Help New York' If He Becomes Mayor

Mixed impression of Sydney Leathers, the 23-year-old girl at the heart of the Anthony Weiner scandal, have come forward as the second "sexting" scandal for the potential New York mayor plays out.

Leathers was identified earlier this week as the woman that Weiner held out a nearly yearlong distance relationship with. Former classmates paint Leather out as a rebellious teen that was attention starved and dropped out of high school early. Other reports however, say that Leather was deeply involved in politics and idolized the New York politician.

"She will take any opportunity to make the attention hers," a former classmate from Mount Caramel High School in Illinois said during an interview with The NY Daily News.

"Her main goal is to become famous," said another.

But according to a friend, Leather "idealized" Weiner for years and was active in posting about her political views. She met political blogger Lou Colagiovanni in one of these blogs.

"She absolutely idealized this man," Colagiovanni told CNN on Wednesday adding that Leather had true feelings for Weiner until she realized that he did not match up with her fantasy.

"Sydney loved him but then she fell out of love with him because the idealized vision in which she had of him was not true, was not the case," he told CNN. "She became disgusted with him after finding out that the person who she thought she was in love with was not indeed that person."

Weiner, who was involved in a similar scandal last year before he stepped down from running as a mayoral candidate, attempted to downplay the situation.

"I'm fine," he told reporters Wednesday, as he left his Park Ave. South home for his campaign office. "I've got an amazing wife and child upstairs. I've got a comfortable life." The politician has suggested that he has no plans of stepping out of the running this time around.

Leather's mother however, does not appear to think highly of the candidate.

"I have nothing to say except God help New York if he gets to be mayor. You can print that," Laura Leathers told The NY Daily News at her home in Allendale, Ill.
