'Tekken 7' World Championship to Be Held in the US this November

For the first time in two decades, this year's "Tekken 7" world championship will be held outside Japan. Instead of the Land of the Rising Sun, the Tekken World Finals will be held in the United States on Nov. 12 and will feature a cash prize of $50,000.

Bandai Namco Entertainment's decision to change the venue of this year's championship came out respect for the North American community. After being a two-year arcade exclusive in Japan, North American players quickly caught up following the game's June 2017 console release in the region and even showed up in droves to compete in what can only be described as a show of devotion.

Now, they will have the opportunity to watch the best of the best fight it out on stage. After more than 20 years of being held in Japan, North America will host the "Tekken 7" world championship.

"'Tekken 7' has brought many new experiences to our fans and having the 'Tekken' World Finals take place outside of Japan is the latest experience we want to give them," says Katsuhiro Harada, 'Tekken' Franchise Director at Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc.

15 players, 5 from each region—the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific—will join Evo 2017 champion Hyun-jin "JDCR" Kim in San Francisco next month in the conclusion of the global circuit that began in June. 16 players, from 1,286 who participated in the open qualifiers will fight it out in the largest and arguably most important fighting game tournament of the year.

Aside from the tournament, players will also get to experience the game's latest DLC (downloadable content) character Geese Howard prior to the global release.

Gamers who want to experience join the tournament action in-person can purchase tickets to the "Tekken 7" World Tour Finals at TEKKEN TWT 2017 Tickets. The game will also be streamed on Twitch at Twitch.tv/Tekken.

"Tekken 7" is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Arcade, and Microsoft Windows.
