'The Deuce' Spoilers: Executive Producers Talks About Their 3-Season Plan

A series highlighting the rise of the porn industry seems to be exciting for some but that's not what "The Deuce" is all about. Executive producers David Simon and George Pelecanos recently talked about why they wanted to explore the story behind the flesh trade's rise from the alleys to a billion-dollar business.

The recent episode saw triumphant day for the porn industry in New York City after the courts dropped all charges against pornography producers. This inevitably sets the stage for the Golden Age of Pornography with anticipation.

Named after the local slang for New York's 42nd Street, "The Deuce" follows twin brothers Vincent (James Franco) and Frankie Martino (also James Franco) as they make their way through Times Square in 1971. It is here where the lives of the earliest pioneers of the flesh trade – pornographers, hookers, pimps and adult bookstore owners – are depicted as they dodge the law while figuring out how to make the most of their situation.

In an interview with Collider, Simon and Pelecanos discussed the reason as to why they wanted to portray these aspects of the porn and sex industry. They also talked about why this is a three-season story giving viewers a glimpse of what's to come.

According to Simon, the show is planned for three seasons, the second of which will be in the late '70s when characters have been around, in this world for about four or five years. The final season is planned for the mid-'80s when Times Square came crashing down around their heads.

While they want to make all the characters last, attrition will take a toll on all of them given that the series heavily deals in vices such as drugs and alcohol. Nevertheless, Simon and Pelecanos assured fans that the same core characters will last until the show's conclusion.

"The Deuce" season 1 episode 7 "Au Reservoir" airs this Sunday, Oct. 22 only on HBO.
