'The Family' Season 1 Spoilers: 'Everyone Has A Secret' In New ABC Drama, Actor Reveals
With just a few weeks left before "The Family," the much-anticipated new ABC drama from former ShondaLand writer Jenna Bans, is released, the show's cast and producers are drumming up hype for the series and giving viewers a peek into what the show is all about.
"Everyone has a secret, everyone has an agenda and everyone has a version of the truth — and it's about where they all convene," actor Andrew McCarthy, who will play the role of a murder convict, said. McCarthy, who was initially offered a different role in the political drama series, opted to take on the complex role of a sexual pariah who spends 12 years in jail for a boy's murder, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.
"The Family" follows the story of the Warrens as Claire (Joan Allen), the matriarch and the mayor of the fictional town of Red Pines, and her family members deal with the return of her son Adam (Liam James), who was kidnapped 10 years ago. The series also stars Zach Gilford as Danny, Alison Pill as Willa, Rupert Graves as John, and Margot Bingham as the FBI agent on Adam's case.

"I would like you to have doubts, but then go, 'There was a DNA test … but maybe there was something wrong," Bans told the press at the Television Critics Association's press tour on Saturday. "We're playing that 'Is he or isn't he'," the show's creator said of "The Family's" central mystery.
But, according to Bans, the series is about much more than that first central dilemma. "By the time we get to episodes four and five, there's 10 more plot threads than there were in the pilot. The stories spider web out through the first season." The writer also disclosed that by the time viewers get to the Season 1 finale, half of the show's mysteries will be resolved and half will be continuing on.
"The question you ask yourself at the end of the pilot might not be the main question you care about by the finale," Bans revealed.
"The Family" debuts with a special preview on Thursday, March 3, at 9 p.m., before moving to its regular timeslot of Sundays at 9 p.m. on March 6.
