'The Get Down' Season 2 News, Updates, Spoilers: Season 1 Part 2 To Arrive February 2017; Promises an "All-Out" Second Half

Netflix's hottest hip hop series, "The Get Down," is currently shooting its second season, and fans couldn't get any more excited about it. Amid rumors of cancellation and even Jaden Smith (Marcus "Dizzee" Kipling) suicide hoaxes, showrunner Baz Luhrmann promised that the show was "stronger than ever," having performed extraordinarily well on the first leg of its two-part Season 1 run.

Turning it all the way up for Part 2

Which means fans of the franchise can now relax as they wait for their nearest possible "The Get Down" fix: part two of Season 1, which arrives February 2017. In its official Twitter account, "The Get Down" crew had featured a vinyl CD playing "Set Me Free," by Mylene Cruz (played by Herizen Guardiola) and the Soul Madonnas. Fans would remember the song from "The Get Down" Season 1 Part 1, where Mylene's uber-religious father gave the OK for her to sing the song because the lyrics were lifted from the Holy Bible.

Shameik Moore, who plays Shaolin Fantastic in the Netflix series, tweeted that they "turned it all the way up" for Part 2. In addition to that, Baz Luhrmann also announced via Twitter that "The Get Down" cast had already wrapped up their last rehearsal on Oct. 7. He also teased that big things are coming for the second half.

Why split it in two

In a Vulture TV podcast, co-creator Stephen Adly Guirgis said the decision to split "The Get Down" Season 1 was because Netflix and Sony Pictures TV wanted the show to get out there after two and a half years in production. While this gave them time to shoot for the second half of the season, Guirgis admitted it's affected the way they would have told the story.

Had they known earlier, for example, they would have been able to craft a cliffhanger for "The Get Down" Season 1 Part 1. He joked that he could have made people suffer with a twist of some sort, but because they weren't informed in advance, they ended up telling the story in a row.

As such, "The Get Down" Season 1 Part 2 will likely be picking up from the events of the midseason finale, where Mylene's song became a radio hit and decides to move to Manhattan. She then made Ezekiel (Justice Smith) promise he'll visit her there. Ezekiel, on the other hand, discovered his power of charisma, and expressed that the kids aren't the problem; they're the solution.

No news out yet for "The Get Down" Season 2, although the second half of the first season looks promising enough to tide fans over the long wait.
