'The Good Wife' Spinoff Potential Release Date in Spring 2017; Setting of Story Revealed
While the rest of the world is still reeling after the events that took place in "The Good Wife's" series finale, the delightful news came in: the story lives on in a spin-off!
CBS announced during its annual Upfronts presentation in New York City this week, Wednesday May 18, 2016 that the network has officially greenlit the project which will be starred by Christine Baranski (who plays Diane Lockhart in the original series) and Cush Jumbo (as Lucca Quinn).
According to TVLine, the new series is being eyed to launch in the Spring 2017 exclusively on CBS All Access. This is the network's digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.
Added by the media outlet, the yet to be titled show will pick up "one year" following the events that took place in "The Good Wife" Season 7 finale, which aired on May 8.
Series creators and executive producers Robert and Michelle King will be reprising their positions this time with the addition of Phil Alden Robinson, Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer, and Brooke Kenney as showrunners, CBS reports.
Last week, the Kings have already expressed their enthusiasm to continue the tale of the legal drama TV series. In an interview with Deadline, Mr. King said that they would bring back the characters "every single one back" and they would do it "in a hearbeat."
"The quality of The Good Wife has always rivaled anything on television and we're excited to tell more stories with some of the brilliant characters Robert and Michelle King created," said David Stapf, President, CBS Television Studios, meanwhile said in an interview.
The show, which debuted in 2009, has received multiple prestigious awards, including five Emmy Awards, on top of 39 nominations, and the 2014 Television Critics Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama. It has also been named twice as the best television show by the AFI.
