The Grammy Awards News: Kendrick Lamar Holds 11 Nominations for This Year

With the Grammy Awards well on its way, fans of Kendrick Lamar are hoping that the artist will be able to bring home some trophies this year.

It was reported that Kendrick Lamar's second studio album titled "To Pimp a Butterfly" received 11 Grammy nominations, such as Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Rap Performance.

The actor recently spoke to The New York Times about his success. It seems as though Kendrick is looking forward to the upcoming awards show, as he believes it is a milestone in the entertainment culture. Regarding his nominations, he stated, "I want all of them. Because it's not only a statement for myself, but it's a statement for the culture. They're all important, because of the foundation the forefathers laid before me. Nas didn't get a chance to be in that position. Pac. So to be acknowledged and to actually win, it's for all of them."

The hip hop artist is currently holding the most nominations out of all the artists, even beating out Taylor Swift, who earned seven nominations for this year. With that, he will be competing with her album "1989," along with the Weeknd's "Beauty Behind the Madness," Alabama Shakes' "Sound + Color," and Chris Stapleton's "Traveller," for the Album of the Year.

Kendrick's song "Alright" will also be up against Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud," Taylor Swift's "Blank Space," Little Big Town's "Girl Crush," and Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again," for the Songwriter's Award.

With the varied sounds up for awards this year, the CEO and President of Recording Academy made a statement regarding this year's event. According to CNN, he stated, "Artists are pushing boundaries in exciting ways, making it an exceptionally strong year for music."

The Grammy Awards will be on Feb. 15.
