'The Hunger Games' to Get Stage Adaptation, Robin de Levita to Direct
The next title to "The Hunger Games" film franchise, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1," will be arriving in movie theaters on Nov. 21 later this month. Now Lionsgate has announced Friday earlier this week that it has made a deal to mount "The Hunger Games" as a stage production in London.
The stage adaptation of the film will be scheduled to premiere in the newly constructed theater next to Wembley Stadium in 2016. The production will also be produced by Robin de Levita, also known for his Broadway hits like "Urinetown" and the "Into the Woods" revival in 2002.
"Robin de Levita and the entire production team are the perfect partners for extending 'The Hunger Games' franchise into a live theatrical experience," says Tim Palen, Lionsgate chief marketing officer in a statement.
"Their creative genius, combined with world-class production values and state-of-the-art technology will provide a uniquely immersive experience for fans around the world."

Lionsgate has provided no additional details but de Levita has been generating headlines for a production taking place in the Netherlands, telling the story of Anne Frank with the use of rotating sets and an enormous 180-degree screen.
"The theater is a fantastic medium to bring the many meaningful layers of Suzanne Collins' writing to life," says de Levita in a statement regarding the stage adaptation of Collins' novel trilogy.
There is currently no announcement regarding how the theatrical adaptation will be done, as Collins' novels are told in a trilogy, while the film has been decidedly split up into four with the final film split into two parts.
