'The Last of Us 2' Rumors: Naughty Dog Keeping Mum on Sequel?

Rumors of a sequel to Naughty Dog's "The Last of Us" have yet to die down after one of its voice actors, Nolan North, hinted at a part two in the works.

Santa Monica, California-based video game developer Naughty Dog has neither denied nor confirmed rumors they are doing a sequel to their critically acclaimed and multi-awarded survival horror game, "The Last of Us."

During a Q&A at the MetroCon in Tampa, Florida in July, North, who also voices the lead, Nathan Drake, in Naughty Dog's action adventure shooter series, "Unchartered," admitted to the existence of PlayStation 4's most highly watched for sequels, "The The Last of Us 2," after a fan asked if he was working with the developer on any other project following "Unchartered 4: A Thief's End."

However, Troy Baker, who voiced lead character Joel in "The Last of Us," denied any knowledge of a sequel when asked during a panel at the Indy PopCon last month, contradicting North's statement.

Earlier on, Naughty Dog had announced there was a 50 percent chance a sequel would happen, followed by news it was putting game development on "The Last of Us 2" on hold while it concentrated on "Unchartered 4," said to be the final game in the Nathan Drake chronicles.

With "Unchartered 4" due to be released in March 2016, it would free up enough time for the developer to return to "The Last of Us" sequel.

Naughty Dog may indeed have "The Last of Us 2" further along under development than it was previously believed after it was discovered one of its developers, Michael Knowland's LinkedIn profile stated he had put in at least one month's worth of work on the sequel.

Based on Naughty Dog's pattern of going two to three years between games, there is a possibility "The Last of Us 2" will be getting some official publicity by 2017, with a PS4 exclusive release sometime in 2018 or 2019.
