'The Legend of Zelda' Wii U News: Link Might Remain Mute Despite Fans' Requests

As fans await Nintendo's decision on when "The Legend of Zelda" will release on the Wii U, new reports suggest that amid fans' requests of hearing Link "finally" speak in the upcoming game, the character will still be mute.

According to a report by Attack of the Fan Boy, producer Eiji Aonuma talked to Games Master and he gave insights on what he thinks of Link and his role in the game. While many fans have been requesting to hear Link's voice when the game releases on Wii U, it turns out that Aonuma doesn't find it necessary.

He first admitted to the magazine that there have been a lot of requests about the issue, and at some point, the team did consider giving Link a possible script. After all, he has become one of the favorites, and 30 years later, fans have finally decided to tell Aonuma and his team that the beloved character should at least say "Hi."

On the other hand, Aonuma explained that there is something very special about Link's silence. "Part of me also feels that that air of proud independence he [Link] has because he doesn't speak is a precious part of the individuality of his character," he explained.

This means fans might not hear Link's voice when the game launches. Aside from the trademark silence that the character has, it will also be impossible to recruit a voice actor for him at this stage of the game wherein development is almost completed and finishing touches are most probably the only things needed.

Fans shouldn't feel too bad, though, since Aonuma said he will consider the suggestion again. "I want to think long and hard about whether changing that would be for the better or not before I make any decision," he said.

Meanwhile, it is expected that Nintendo will make some important announcements about the game very soon so fans should stay tuned to be updated.

"The Legend of Zelda" is scheduled to release sometime in 2016 for Wii U.
