'The Little Mermaid' Live-Action Movie: Chloe Moretz Not Playing as Ariel, Plot to Follow Hans Christian Andersen Classic
When actress and model Chloe Grace Moretz announced that she would be playing a mermaid for the live-action movie of "The Little Mermaid," everyone, especially the diehard Disney fans, shrieked in excitement. However, their excitement may have to be cut short as reports say that it's not going to be the same Disney movie that fans have grown up with and love.
According to Bustle, Moretz will not be playing Ariel from Disney's 1989 animated film adaptation "The Little Mermaid." It's not that she has dropped the role but the live-action movie that they are doing will follow the original fairy tale published in 1837 and authored by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.
The plot will still be about a young mermaid who is willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul. However, it's expected that it will have a different take from the famous childhood movie from Disney. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Moretz said that the upcoming movie will be "a modern, revisionist tale."

"[We're] making it progressive for young women in this day and age," Moretz described to ET during the KIIS-FM iHeartRadio Jingle Ball concert on Friday night.
Not only will the story be different but it will also leave behind the iconic red hair of the little mermaid. When asked if she will be dyeing her hair red just like Ariel's, Moretz answered that she will not, even though she had wanted to have bright red hair. But since the film is going on a different direction, she will be sticking with her blonde hair. Pop Sugar noted that in Andersen's book illustration, the little mermaid sports a flaxen mane.
As for the preparations for the film, Moretz revealed to E! Online that possibly a month from now, she will be starting her underwater training. They will start filming by March 2016.
