Nina Dobrev left The CW series last year, which left fans heartbroken when they found out that she will no longer be taking on the role of Elena. However, it was reported that her character still plays a vital role in the storyline of the series.
With that, there has been speculation that Dobrev will be returning to the series. According to Collider, the executive producer of the series, Caroline Dries, recently shared some interesting insight about Dobrev's potential return. She said, "I would say that, if The CW called today and was like, 'By the way, Season 7 is the last season,' then I think we would scramble to make sure that she was in the finale. But as of right now, we're acting like the show will go on, so no."

Meanwhile, it was reported that Dobrev's ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, has been making progress with his marriage. It was reported that Somerhalder and Nikki Reed already have nine pets in the household, which include two horses, four dogs, and three cats.
According to Entertainment Tonight, he stated, "I'm going to be editing my episode all night, and that's just kind of my main focus right now. Other than that, I'm just hanging with my wife and my babies -- our babies, all these furry creatures that we have."
However, Somerhalder recently shared that he and Nikki are planning to let their family grow even more. It was reported that Somerhalder is eager to start a family with Nikki. When asked if fans can expect babies in the near future, Somerhalder simply said, "Standby."
