American actor Jon Bernthal, who played Deputy Shane Walsh on "The Walking Dead" series on AMC for seasons one and two, has just signed on for the role of Frank Castle/The Punisher for Season 2 of Marvel's "Daredevil" on Netflix.

Set to premiere in 2016, Season 2 will see Bernthal as a vigilante anti-hero, The Punisher, who has set himself a goal to clean up New York's Hell's Kitchen by fair means or foul.

Marvel Television Head Jeph Loeb hinted The Punisher will be bringing some major changes to Matt Murdock's world, implying The Punisher will play a significant role in the larger story arc planned for Season 2.

According to Loeb, The Punisher's character will be a mix of power, motivation and vulnerability, expected to add more drama to the series when it premieres next year.

Based on the comic books, The Punisher has no qualms about killing off low life criminals, a line Charlie Cox's Daredevil has yet to cross. This may mean Daredevil and The Punisher may take serious issue with the way each one does his business, leading to a wealth of conflict building up for Season 2.

Bernthal, 38, has amassed his own fan base from his shady and crazy portrayal of Shane Walsh on "The Walking Dead." He has also had roles in "The Wolf of Wall Street" and the Brad Pitt World War II film, "Fury."

He recently completed filming "The Accountant," an action flick a Gavin O'Connor action thriller co-starring Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick, and he will soon be appearing on "Me and Earl and The Dying Girl," an indie dramedy due out in theaters this weekend.
