'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5' Confirmed for Release This Year

A follow up to the 2002 "Tony Hawk" skateboarding series has just been announced with "Pro Skater 5" scheduled to make a 2015 debut.

Robomodo and Disruptive Games released information they will be launching "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5" in late 2015 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with versions for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to follow after.

The skateboarding game series last released its fourth installment in October 2003 to critical acclaim, receiving a 9/10 score for its Xbox console version, and 9.3/10 for its PlayStation 2 version, according to IGN.

Featuring professional skateboarders on its roster of playable characters, the game has a multi-level selection with a host of objectives, obstacles, missions, gaps and competitions in single player or multiplayer mode, all set in real-world locations. Players progress through "level-ups" and can share their game achievements with an online community.

While the upcoming game is the fifth installment in the series, it represents the tenth entry after the series was rebranded under "Tony Hawk's Underground," with "American Wasteland" in 2005, "Project 8" in 2006, and "Proving Ground" in 2007 followed "Pro Skater 4."

According to Wired, the developers have returned to the original branding and series numbering in an effort to rekindle the energy of the early games that made the series into a competitive skateboard gaming phenomenon.

"Pro Skater 5" will be featuring Lizzie Armanto, Leticia Bufoni, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Riley Hawk, Aaron Homoki, Nyjah Huston, Andrew Reynolds, Ishod Wair, and Tony Hawk himself, all playable with complete character customizations.

The new game will also bring in new features like "power-ups" and gameplay modifiers like projectiles, while allowing players to create their own skate parks they could share with their online gaming community.

The developers have promised more news, with a hint of the next installment's major unveiling at the Los Angeles E3 in June.
