UFC 193 Ronda Rousey vs Holly Holm News: Matchup Details, Predictions
The UFC 193 is here and fans of the contact sport have long been anticipating for how the matchup between the women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and the undefeated former pro boxing champion Holly Holm turns out.
The fight is happening this Sunday, Nov. 15 in Melbourne, Australia (Saturday, Nov. 14 in the United States) at Etihad Stadium. The event, which is rooted to break pay-per-view sales records in UFC, is also set to feature a co-main event in the Strawweight championship division with Joanna Jedrzejczyk defending her title against the challenger Valerie Letourneau. Fans are also in for some exciting undercard events participated by local and international fighters.
As of the main event, a closer look of the matchup strongly favors Rousey. The 28-year-old MMA champion from Riverside, California came like a hurricane in MMA, making a huge name of herself for her (almost) less-than-a-minute performances. Can Holm stood up against this formidable opponent?
BleacherReport.com shares their take on the story by citing their recent interview with the site's senior columnist Mike Chiapetta who said that in moments of distraction, Rousey could be caught unguarded against Holm's advantage: striking skills.
Sherdog.com added that although Holm has never been known for knockout finishes. But her reputation as "a dangerous puncher" has earned her some weight in the odds of defeating Rousey.
The #7 ranked-fighter has managed to maintain her unblemished fight record by utilizing exceptional fighting style which relies heavily on "movement, activity and grit." Could this be Holm's game plan in the fight night?
"She keeps her distance, moving and feinting without really trying to sell any particular threat. Periodically she attacks, often with a lead left or a right side kick, mixing up these attacks with her left round kick, the only strike in her arsenal with consistent power. When the opponent comes forward, Holm backpedals furiously, creating as much as space as possible as quickly as possible but not doing anything to maintain that distance," the website details out the 34-year-old fighter's style.
According further to the site, Rousey's tendency to rush blindly into the clinch might give Holm a window to place her blows. But with the former's iron chin, the latter might need to lock in more power to those punches.
Holm, on her part, should also need to watch out for the takedowns as Rousey has more advantage when it comes to hitting the canvas.
Sherdog predicts that Rowdy will improve to a 13-0 record via submission in round four with her classic move, the straight armbar.
