UFC Fight News 2016: Anthony Perosh Announces Retirement
After 12 successful years as a mixed martial artist, Australian light heavyweight fighter Anthony Perosh is finally hanging it up. The Ultimate Fighting Championship campaigner announced that he officially will retire from any MMA competition after 25 bouts.
Perosh is already 43 years old, an age that majority of fighters don't even wait to until deciding to retire. But all throughout his career, he's been an epitome of fitness, probably because of superb conditioning. In his official announcement through his personal website, he talked about his achievements as more than enough to call it a day. "I'm retiring from fighting in MMA," he said. "I've had a great career in MMA spanning 12 years, 25 fights, 15 wins, and 5 wins in the UFC all by stoppage and 3 by Rear Naked Choke," he added.
The man they call "The Hippo" also emphasized that he still will be involved with mixed martial arts but it will be under a different role, although he did not specify or go into details as to what he meant by it, except that he will be focusing more on his two MMA gyms and competition teams.
After a long layoff, Perosh raised some eyebrows in 2010 when he decided to return to the UFC at 37 years old. He fought Cro Cop in a heavyweight fight for UFC 110. After losing to Cro Cop, the promotion was apparently impressed by him, eventually giving him a four-fight contract. He then went on to fight in the light heavyweight division and won impressive bouts against Guto Inocente, Cyrille Diabate, and Vinny Magalhaes.
He actually started in the UFC in 2006, but it wasn't pretty, losing two straight fights at the heavyweight division. After that, he reinvented himself and expanded his repertoire, doing more than just his expertise in Machado Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
He will be retiring from the sport with a record of 15-10.
