'Vampire Diaries' Season 6: Steven R. McQueen to Exit the Show, Delena to Live Happily Ever After?

The CW's supernatural show "Vampire Diaries" will be returning soon with its sixth season, but fans may be saddened to know that they will soon be saying goodbye to an original cast member as Steven R. McQueen is set to leave the show.

Steven R. McQueen has been a part of the show since 2009, playing the role of Jeremy Gilbert. After all the drama in Jeremy's life, it seemed like the writers decided it was finally time to let the character go.

Julie Plec, the show's executive producer, stated, "This year, we realized that Jeremy has truly grown into a man, and as the victim of so much pain at the hands of the supernatural universe, we felt like it was time for him to go out on his own and start a fresh new life with a twist."

Don't expect to say goodbye too soon though, as McQueen will still be around for a while. Plec claimed that Jeremy's final appearance isn't until episode 614 and he will be leaving alive, opening up the possibility for a comeback if McQueen is willing or depending on the story.

Saddening news aside, fans are still raring to know a few things about what's going to happen upon the show's return, and Delena fans may have cause for celebration.

Ian Somerhalder spoke up at the 2015 TCA press tour, saying that "You don't typically get to see Damon in a time and space where he's truly happy. It's great to see anyone happy at any time."

He also talked about Damon and Elena, which may build hopes for a Delena endgame. He said, "They've been through a lot. Love trumps all. So when you see, you want it to win."

Not only that, but Plec previously mentioned a hookup, breakup and makeup happening on the show via Twitter. When asked by E! News, she kept mum on who's who but admitted that not all the events pertain to one couple.

As for the hookup, she teased, "I can tell you that the hookup is … people who like rain will be very happy."

"The Vampire Diaries" is set to return on Jan. 22 at 8/7c on The CW.
