'Venom' Movie News, Release Date: First Photo Shows Tom Hardy on Set
Sony's upcoming "Venom" standalone film is now in production.
This much was revealed by the first photo from the highly anticipated feature. The movie's official Twitter account posted the image, which sees Tom Hardy joined by two other men. Captioned "Day 1," the photo is the only post in the "Venom" Twitter page. Regardless of that fact, the account already has almost 15,000 followers as of writing, which is indicative of the film's fan base.
Hardy will star as Eddie Brock, also known as Venom, an anti-hero who is Spider-Man's enemy. Not much is known about the plot of the film, but that has not stopped fans from getting excited.

Joining Hardy are Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, and Jenny Slate. According to Variety, Reid Scott, who is known for his role as Dan Egan on "Veep," has also been tapped to play a role in the film. The Hollywood Reporter also reported that Scott Haze is in talks to join the cast.
Character details have yet to be revealed, so it remains to be seen who Scott and Haze will play. However, it is known that Venom will face the villainous Carnage in the film. While there were speculations that Ahmed would be taking on the role of Carnage, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that this is not the case.
Additionally, fans should not expect Spider-Man to appear in "Venom," as the studio has said that the superhero will not be a part of the solo films in Sony's Marvel universe. However, there is still hope for Spider-Man and Venom to meet once again. The studio is not completely closed to the idea of Venom appearing in other films related to "Spider-Man."
The last time Peter Parker and Eddie Brock came face to face was in 2007's "Spider-Man 3," the third and final installment in a "Spider-Man" trilogy that starred Tobey Maguire as the titular hero. In that film, Topher Grace, who is known for playing Eric Forman on "That '70s Show," assumed the role of Venom.
Sony's "Venom" will be released in U.S. cinemas on Oct. 5, 2018.
