Walmart Black Friday Ad 2011: Retailer Offers Video Games, Consoles for Markedly Low Prices
Walmart, which just one-upped retail competitors Target and Kohl's by announcing that it will open its doors at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day to get a head start on Black Friday, is offering some of the best deals on video games and consoles this season.
Walmart is offering low prices on consoles such as the Xbox 360 4GB with Kinect, which is selling for $196.99,
PlayStation 3 160GB for $199.96, the Sony PSP-3000 Core Pack System for $99.96 and the Nintendo Wii limited edition blue console for $99.96. The games range in price from $28.00 to as low as $10.00. Some of the $10 titles for the Nintendo Wii include "Bakugen," "Deal Or No Deal," "Game Party 2," "How to Train Your Dragon," "Shaun White Skateboarding" and "Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz." The $10 games for Playstation 3 include "Kany and Lynch 2," "Pure," "Shrek Forever After" and "Yakusa 4," while those for Xbox 360 include "007 Quantum of Solace," "Bioshock 2," "Sing It" and "UFC 2010."
Many other popular retailers, such as Toys "R" Us, Best Buy and Macy's, are opening their doors at midnight this Black Friday and expanding their hours in an effort to capitalize on one of the biggest sales days of the year in a poor economy.
Walmart Chief Merchandising Officer Duncan MacNaughton said part of the reason the store chose to open so early was because customers said they preferred to shop late at night rather than early in the morning.
"Our customers told us they would rather stay up late to shop than get up early, so we're going to hold special events on Thanksgiving and Black Friday," he said in a statement. "We'll have this season's hottest gifts at prices only Walmart can provide. And by sharing our Black Friday specials earlier than ever, we hope to make buying decisions easier for parents working hard to give their families the Christmas they deserve."
Marking the beginning of the holiday shopping season, Black Friday is known to be a day of chaos as shoppers scramble to scoop up the best sales while they can. In 2008, a Long Island, N.Y., Walmart made headlines after an employee was trampled to death by a stampede of hundreds of people as they rushed through the retailer's front doors at the store's opening on Black Friday.
