Washington Redskins Roster Rumors: Veteran CB Cary Williams Adds Depth to Team's Secondary
It looks like Cary Williams will make an appearance in the playoffs after all. Multiple reports are saying that the Washington Redskins have agreed to sign the veteran cornerback after the Seattle Seahawks cut him just before the end of the regular season.
The addition of Williams to the Redskins lineup makes perfect sense because they get someone with experience heading into the wild card phase. The seventh round selection of the 2008 NFL Draft did not impress in Seattle, where he was paid $7 million due to his positive stint with the Baltimore Ravens. However, he couldn't capitalize on a lucrative contract from the Seahawks and eventually lost his starting job to DeShawn Shead.
Although he earlier tried his luck with the Titans, the same team that drafted him, he couldn't impress them, leaving without a contract. But it certainly was a blessing in disguise as he now sees himself with a new gig for a playoff-bound team in Washington.

Of course, his signing is with good reason, too, since the Redskins were dealt with a major blow in their secondary when cornerback Dashaun Phillips went down with a neck injury, while safety Kyshoen Jarrett won't be available due to a nerve damage to his arm. While Phillips might be available sometime next week, Jarrett has already been placed on injured reserve.
Williams joined the NFL in 2009 after Tennessee drafted him in the seventh round, but he only played four games before the Titans cut him after his rookie season. He made his mark with the Baltimore Ravens, playing for them for four seasons, before eventually signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played two seasons for them before getting the rich, with an $18 million contract from the Seahawks.
Williams is widely known by NFL fans as a very blunt and opinionated player who seems to make it a habit to say what he wants.
