Season 3 may take on a totally new plot for the story. The book has been covered during the second season and as the show continues, writers must go another way.

"Wayward Pines" started out with an FBI agent, played by Matt Dillon, who got stuck inside the confines of Wayward Pines. Later on, what lies beyond the borders of the place was revealed. Lastly, the FBI agent died and the second season finale concluded with an Abbie carrying a human child. The third season will bring in a new breed of Abbies. With the human race nearing extinction, the reaction of humans towards despair, escapism and hope will be seen in the upcoming season.

What to Expect

The third season might also get rid of the Abbies once the humans awaken from the sleep. However, this might be a too optimistic view for now. Since it has been seen that the Abbies are quicker to adapt than humans, this changing world might get humans to evolve into Abbies.

There have been reports that M. Night Shyamalan, the producer of the show, would want the third season (if it gets confirmed) to be the finale. He stated that the story will end this time.

It can be recalled that when "Wayward Pines" released its first season, it became an instant hit. The second season, however, had a drop in ratings. If season 3 will push through, it will be worth the test for ratings.

As of this time, it can only be hoped that there would be a third season. Fans will have to wait for the final confirmation since this is the only time that the CEO of FOX has given a statement about the show's possible return.

Season 3 is likely to be released in 2017, once a renewal of the show is confirmed. The wait may be worth the while after all.
