Why Bill Gates Chose Ditched Windows Mobile In Favor Of Android
Android has gotten its most recent convert in the form of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Now, this wouldn't have gotten as much attention as it should except for the fact that Microsoft has its own mobile operating system under its belt: the Windows 10 Mobile.
It was pointed out last weekend during an interview with Fox News that the richest man in the world is using an Android smartphone. The former executive revealed that while he uses an Andoird, it's installed with "lots of Microsoft software" then subtly reinforcing the importance of Microsoft's cloud-based services in his life.
While it seems counter-intuitive for Gates to admit using Android instead of his own firm's OS, the statement doesn't necessarily amount to bad PR given Microsoft's earlier shift away from smartphones. The latter content of his interview highlighted the firm's move to cloud computing with Microsoft's cloud.

According to Gates, the real focus now is on bringing mobile users, no matter the operating system be it Windows, Android, or iOS, into Microsoft's cloud through the use of apps such as Office365, Outlook, OneNote, and To-Do. This why Satya Nadella was brought in as CEO, to shift the focus from marketing a rival operating system to instead bringing all of them together under Microsoft.
Opting to buy an Android or an iPhone effectively hitches users to either Google or Apple's cloud. However, making an active choice to switch to Microsoft's cloud allows them to bridge the gap between their devices allowing users to access personal data regardless of what device they are on.
This move away from the power-struggle between Android and iOS to the new front of Apps and data is what gave Gates the confidence to declare himself for Team Android.
