William Shatner's Movie to Premiere in Select Theaters for One Night Only
William Shatner is releasing his one-man show, "Shatner's World," in select theaters around the U.S. this year, but only for one night.
The actor who famously portrayed Captain Kirk in "Star Trek" is making his critically-acclaimed one-man show available to the masses on the big screen. "Shatner's World... We Just Live In It" will open in 700 theaters across the nation this Thursday, April 24, with help from Fathom Events.
Billed as a "larger than life voyage through William Shatner's Life and Career," the show features songs, jokes and anecdotes about Shatner's journey from being a clasically trained Shakespearean actor to a cultural icon.
"I talk about a great many things ... I talk about love, I talk about comedy, I talk about hate," the 83-year-old actor told Fox411 of the show. "I talk about motorcycles. I talk about horses. I talk about history. I talk about the shows that I've been in. I talk about singing. It goes on and yet I've been able to charactertize it so that it evokes laughter or tears or both, or knowledge, or some appreciation of the variety of subjects. It's a multimedia show and it should reach you on many levels."
Shatner also discussed "Star Trek," and while the actor could not name his favorite episode aboard the starship Enterprise, he talked about what made the show so great.
"The best shows of 'Star Trek' had a message of some kind, had good character development, had tension of a plot evolvement, sort of a great Greek classic play," he told Fox. "Those were my favorite shows."
Meanwhile, Shatner drew ridicule with a spoken-word album entitled "Transformed Man," but has since earned critical acclaim with his more recent album, "Ponder the Mystery." To find out more about "Shatner's World," visit FathomEvents.com.
