The original release date of "Winds of Winter" was supposed to be before the premiere of "Game of Thrones" Season 6. However, Martin's busy schedule brought major delays for the novel. Instead, he has been giving GOT fans excerpts of it.

What Does this Mean for HBO's 'Game of Thrones'?

Because of the delay, "Game of Thrones" executives had to create their own plan for the characters of the series since they have already caught up to the happenings of the novel. "Game of Thrones" Season 6 was the first season of the series that did not have much material from the original source.

This led to the surprising development of certain characters such as Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage). Nevertheless, Martin explained that the direction of "Game of Thrones" is still in line with his overall vision on the novels.

Even though "Winds of Winter" could make it in time before "Game of Thrones" Season 7, there are speculations that HBO heads will continue creating their own storyline for GOT that's separate from the novel.

'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Predictions

There are fan theories suggesting that the next season will finally unite Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington). Fans have been waiting patiently for the Mother of Dragons and Snow to meet, as the two of them both seem like righteous rulers of the iron throne.

In addition, some believe that they could even have a potential romantic relationship in "Game of Thrones" Season 7. If this is the case, they would become the power couple in the Seven Kingdoms.
