Tyrion is a fan favorite and if he is killed off it would leave many shocked and disappointed. However, that is the flow of the most recent rumors surrounding his future.

But things are far from clear cut, as in a recent interview, author George R. R. Martin has revealed that Tyrion is his favorite character amongst the Lannisters, and that could well become his saving grace.

George R. R. Martin said, "I love all my characters, of course, but Tyrion has always been a favorite," according to Hollywood Life.

He added, "He is the easiest to write ... The only thing that is hard is that it takes me days and sometimes weeks to come up with the one-liners that Tyrion comes up with in, like, a minute. I wish in real life I was nearly as acerbic and funny as Tyrion."

Trying to address the rumors about whether or not Tyrion will die in the upcoming plot line, Martin was a little evasive: "Well, I did cut off his nose, so ..."

The author said, "They say that you write what you want to read and you create in television what you want to watch. I love shows that are unpredictable. I like shows to be more real. Predictable shows and books bore me."

He added, "I want to be on the edge of my seat. So, the deaths are important and at all times necessary."

According to Zap2it, George R.R. Martin said that fans would meet the Martells of Dorne in Season Five of 'Game of Thrones.' He also revealed that the Sand Snakes will appear (the daughters of Oberyn Martell) who could seek revenge for the death of their father.

"I hope you like them, because you're also going to be seeing a lot of them in 'The Winds of Winter'," the author said.

In recent rumors, George R.R. Martin has also confirmed that he is focusing on finishing "Winds of Winter" and that has put the writing for Game of Thrones Season 5 on the back burner for now.

As of yet, there is still no clear scheduled release date for Winds of Winter as Martin is still in the process of writing the novel. However, seeing as he is focusing all his efforts on the book now, fans can expect it sooner rather than later.
