'World War Z 2' Rumors: Sequel to Be Closely Tied to the Book?
"World War Z" became the top-earning zombie movie of all time when it hit the big screens in 2013 so it doesn't come as a surprise when news emerged that the franchise will see a sequel.
The plot and other details about the movie are still under wraps, but rumor has it that the second film will most likely be tied to the events that took place in the Max Brooks book that the movie was adapted from.
This is probably because some critics and fans who saw the movie commented that it would have been better if the writers stuck more closely to the book's plot since most of the scenes were altogether new to fans.

British writer Dennis Kelly has been acquired to work on the script for the sequel, and even if a new scriptwriter is on the way, rumor has it that Steven Knight's style will still be adapted in part 2.
In a report by Collider in August, Knight said, "I think the beauty of the first film was the way that it never paused for breath. It never spent a moment thinking, 'Hang on a minute, we'd better tell the audience what this is all about.' It stayed in the moment, it stayed with that person."
Knight's statements suggest that he is all for a single point of view, which was successfully portrayed in the first movie. If Kelly will adapt Knight's direction, fans will most likely see the same single POV aspect in the sequel, which is not a bad thing, especially with Brad Pitt being the lead character.
A new director has also been called for to work on the second film. J.A. Bayona was recently confirmed to lead the team. While there is a new scriptwriter and a new director on board, it is very clear that Pitt will still be back to reprise his role as Gerry Lane.
"World War Z 2" is scheduled for release on June 9, 2017.
