'X-Men: Apocalypse' News, Spoilers: Bryan Singer Teases Wolverine Scene; Olivia Munn Says Psylocke Will Defeat Wolverine, Deadpool

As previous reports suggested, the latest trailer for the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" does, indeed, feature a cameo by a beloved "X-Men" character.

Aside from dipping a bit more into the backstory of its title villain, the origins of Quicksilver (Evan Peters), and Jean Grey's (Sophie Turner) possible transformation into Dark Phoenix, the new "Apocalypse" trailer also revealed a much-awaited appearance by a familiar bloody fist with adamantium claws.

So is Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in "X-Men: Apocalypse"?

Apart from appearing in his own stand-alone series of films, Wolverine has always been an essential part of the "X-Men" film franchise. With his fate left in question at the end of the latest installment, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014), fans have been speculating on whether or not the character's story will be pursued in the upcoming "Apocalypse."

The shot of his claws at the end of the latest "Apocalypse" trailer seems to be confirmation that the iconic Marvel character will, indeed, be in the film. But in a recent interview with Empire, "Apocalypse" writer/director Bryan Singer sounded somewhat hesitant about confirming Wolverine's role in the film.

"Make of that what you want," Singer told Empire. "I will say, it's not simple. There's something more pivotal that occurs with that. It hints to a sequence that again fits within the canon of all six movies, and the birth of a new direction. It's not insignificant, nor is it simply just a throw-in."

But will viewers find out whose claws those were?

"It's not the only shot you're gonna see, let's put it that way," he quipped.

But whether or not Wolverine will appear in "Apocalypse," the superhero ensemble does feature some iconic Marvel mutants. While "Apocalypse" stars some old faces, including Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), many of the main characters in "Apocalypse" are new to the film series.

One of these new faces is Psylocke, the telekinetic and telepathic mutant played by Olivia Munn.

In a recent Twitter Q&A, Munn responded to a fan question about who would win a Psylocke vs. Wolverine vs. Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) three-way fight. According to the actress, Psylocke would definitely be the winner.

"At the end of the day, she is telekinetic, so she can create anything with her mind and just, you know, win the battle," Munn said.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is out May 18.
