Xbox One Game Gifting Feature Now Available

After being confirmed earlier this year, Microsoft has rolled out a digital game gifting feature for Xbox One Insider members. With the new feature, members can now select the gift option when they purchase games to send them directly to their friends.

Digital gifting has been a much-requested feature for gamers, at least for platforms that have yet to implement them such as the Xbox One. The feature has been proven quite successful for platforms such as Steam even burgeoning into a full-blown reseller market before being shut down by Valve.

Microsoft has been promising the feature for quite a while. Now digital gifting is available for Insider members testing program running version 1710 for the upcoming fall OS update.

When browsing through the Microsoft Store (formerly the Xbox Store prior to rebranding), members can now opt to buy games as a gift using the gift button located adjacent to the option for traditional personal purchases. This will then take them to a page with the option to send a game by email address or Xbox Live Gamertag and attach a personalized name/message. Aside from this, the rest of the process is still the same with the traditional purchasing experience.

As for the gift's recipient, they will be notified through email regardless of the option chosen by the sender. In the email, there will be a redeemable 25-digit pre-paid code that can be redeemed via Xbox Live to any Microsoft account.

Microsoft has yet to issue an official statement regarding the update. Given that this is still in the testing phase, the final version of the feature will likely be different than what is currently available for Xbox One Insider members. For the moment, the feature seems to be working smoothly so Xbox One owners will probably get in the fall of this year, just in time for the holidays.
