Xiaomi Mi 5 Launch Date Announced; Specs Include Snapdragon 820, 16MP Camera, 5.2-Inch Display
Xiaomi fans will be having a great Chinese New Year as the highly anticipated Mi 5 device is reported to launch on the same month. According to Venture Beat, a social media post by Xiaomi's co-founder and VP, Liwan Jiang, confirmed that the delayed Mi 5 flagship will arrive in February. It's expected to come after the Chinese New Year which falls on Feb. 8.
He also revealed that the device has already entered mass production and will be equipped under the hood with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. So far, those are the only confirmed pieces of information as not a lot of details have been revealed yet and reports vary according to leaks.
Tech 2 reported that previously released leaked images show the device sporting a 2.5 D glass at the front while the back looks like that of the Mi Note. Capacitive touch keys are nowhere to be found at the bottom but a thin capsule-like fingerprint reader is noted. Apparently, it seems to double as the home button.

Phone Arena also detailed that the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to carry a 5.2-inch Quad-HD resolution screen, but there are also some who claim that it will be 5.5-inches. The processor will be clocked at 2.5GHz and will come along with 4 GB of RAM. As for the internal storage, it is said to come in two variants which include 32 GB and 64 GB, although there are also some reports that say it will have a 128 GB variant as well. The device will feature a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 13-megapixel front camera.
Providing the device life and power is a 3600 mAh battery, according to the Phone Arena report. It's also said to charge up fast with the built-in Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Aside from that, it's speculated to run with Android 6.0 Marshmallow along with Xiaomi's latest skinned version of Android, MIUI 7. As for the price, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is predicted to cost below $400. But of course, until Xiaomi launches the device, it's best to take these information with a grain of salt.
