Zayn Malik News: Ex-One Direction Member Open To Collaboration With Former Bandmate Liam Payne

Zayn Malik wants to collaborate with Liam Payne, the former One Direction member revealed to Fader magazine recently.

While One Direction is on a hiatus, Zayn Malik took the opportunity to reach out to Liam Payne for the first time after he left the boy band. The 22-year-old star said they set aside their differences and discussed the possibility of working together on a music project, according to TV3.

In the interview with Fader, Malik revealed that he had always struggled with One Direction because he felt that he had no room to express his creativity or his real self. If he sang in a slightly R&B way, they would record that verse over and over again until he managed to come up with a pop or "generic" version. It was such an ironic experience for Malik because he belonged to the top boy band in the world and yet he was not happy, Fuse reports.

At first, Payne did not understand why Malik had to leave the group. But now, the former said he totally understood why his bandmate did it, the report relays.

''He understands that it's my thing, that I had to do that, and that basically he wants to meet up and sit down and have a good chat in person," TV3 quotes Malik's statement to Fader. "And he wants to do some music and work on some stuff aside from being in the band, which we always wanted to do anyway.''

Malik left One Direction in March, and since then, he has been busy creating his own music. The new solo artist shared that he is working every day to come up with music that is aligned with his genre. The singer said he would normally not listen to One Direction music because he prefers something "cool."

While Malik's hands are full with his solo career, his former One Direction bandmates — Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson — are on an extended hiatus.
