The danger in assuming Jesus Christ sinned

A recent report revealed that “nearly 40% of people ages 18-25 believe that Jesus Christ committed sins, like other people. How in the world could a sinful “Savior” wash away anyone’s sins?

If Jesus Christ had sinned even one time, He would not qualify as anyone’s Savior. In that case, He would need someone to save Him from His own sins.

In order to learn the truth about the perfection of Jesus Christ, we must turn to the Bible and place confidence in God’s Word rather than in our fickle feelings and the subjective opinions of man.

Scripture is clear on the matter of Christ’s sinlessness:

“You know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in Him is no sin” (1 John 3:5).

“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin (Hebrews 4:15).

He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth (Isaiah 8:14; 1 Peter 2:22).

In spite of God’s clear Word, many people nevertheless choose to assume that Jesus Christ sinned and is imperfect, just like us. It is a terrible and tragic mistake to embrace this diabolical lie.

Man’s assumptions are often based on false information, or what is commonly referred to today as “fake news.” Here are 10 examples of fake news about Jesus Christ over the past 2000 years:

1. Jesus is not the Son of God.
2. Jesus was not born of a virgin.
3. Jesus was a sinner.
4. Jesus was a false messiah.
5. Jesus is not fully human.
6. Jesus is not fully divine.
7. Jesus did not understand why He was on Earth.
8. Jesus failed in His mission.
9. Jesus did not rise from the dead.
10. The crucifixion of Christ does not pay for anyone's sins.

Fake news about Jesus leads people to assume Jesus must have sinned. Sadly, when you rely upon human reason rather than God’s inspired Word (2 Timothy 3:16), you end up with all sorts of misguided opinions about God.

After all, how much confidence can you have in God’s promises if you reject the biblical teaching concerning Christ’s sinlessness? And without confidence in God’s promises, it is impossible to have biblical faith.

What kind of a “Savior" is imperfect? What kind of a “Savior" disobeys the 10 Commandments? False descriptions of Jesus Christ are simply the figment of human imagination rather than divine revelation.

This leaves only two options. You can either accept what God’s Word reveals concerning the sinlessness of Christ, or you can make up your own version of “Jesus” and import whatever ideas seem right to you.

Keep in mind that a mythical “Jesus” cannot save your soul because a mythical “Jesus” is make-believe. The Holy Spirit does not save souls through false doctrines that promote a make-believe “Jesus.” And without the Holy Spirit, you cannot be converted (John 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:3).

The Apostle Paul warned believers about those who teach a different Jesus. “For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different Gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough” (2 Corinthians 11:4).

Simply put, false teaching destroys souls.

Another reason it is so dangerous to assume Jesus Christ sinned is because this erroneous idea blinds people from understanding the Gospel. Those who choose to redefine Jesus also naturally assume that man can earn his way to Heaven by his own good works.

The Apostle John wrote, “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1).

False prophets teach “a different Gospel” (2 Corinthians 11:4), and false prophets deny the deity of Christ and the sinlessness of the Savior. False prophets inject poison in the souls of those who submit to their false doctrines.

“The Holy Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and the doctrines of demons” (1 Timothy 4:1).

Demons invent false teaching and incite false prophets to spread lies about God and the Bible. It is a lie from the pit of Hell to teach that Jesus Christ sinned. Satan wants people to believe this blasphemous doctrine for obvious reasons.

In order to avoid false teaching, one must reject any doctrine that contradicts the Word of God. The false claim that Jesus is a sinner leads souls away from God.

Therefore, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith” (1 Peter 5:8).

It is impossible to stand firm in faith if you assume your Savior sinned. In fact, your faith will come crumbling down as a result of buying into this demonic deception.

You can either trust the perfect One who died on the cross in your place, or instead redefine “Jesus” as a sinner like us who needs to be saved from his sin.

God invites you to believe in the Jesus of Scripture. Will you accept God’s invitation and believe what the Bible says about Jesus Christ? Will you trust the sinless Savior to wash away your sins?

Turn to Jesus Christ today in a spirit of repentance and sorrow over your sin, and then offer this simple prayer to your Savior: “Wash me Jesus with your precious blood."
