The multiverse hypothesis lacks mathematical evidence

Canadian astrophysicist Hugh Ross stated some years ago, “I remember back in the 1980s telling university audiences, eventually the fine-tuning evidence for the Creator God of the Bible scientifically will become so overwhelming that the nontheist will have nowhere else to go but to hypothesize an infinite number of universes where every universe is different, where they will claim that we happen to live in the one lucky universe where everything has just the right features and characteristics.”

As Hugh Ross predicted, a fanciful theory known as the multiverse hypothesis has become quite popular today. Without a shed of mathematical evidence to support the idea, some people close their eyes and dream about billions of other universes beyond our own. This shot in the dark requires a wild imagination, and it may be the most extreme example of blind faith ever witnessed.

But while some people fantasize about space, others wisely investigate back into history. They study specific prophecies written down hundreds of years before they were fulfilled and discover that there is actually overwhelming mathematical evidence undergirding the claims of Christ and the message of Scripture. After all, no one but God would have been able to pull off such a feat.

I laid out this evidence in my 2013 CP op-ed, “The Mathematical Proof for Christianity Is Irrefutable.” The odds of one man fulfilling just 8 prophecies are one in one hundred quadrillion, or 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. And yet Jesus Christ fulfilled far more than 8 prophecies. In comparison, the multiverse fantasy does not have a single fulfilled prophecy or a scintilla of mathematical evidence.

Cults, such as Scientology, bind the consciences of their members to doctrines that contradict Scripture. Likewise, multiverse speculation seduces certain people to make science fiction a foundational pillar of their worldview. The far-fetched multiverse theory leads intelligent people to look out into deep space and dream about imaginary universes. But regardless of one’s sincerity, blind faith remains blind faith even when intelligent people choose to adopt it.

Geraint Lewis is Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Sydney, Australia. When asked if the multiverse is a bone fide theory that’s been proven, he said, “It isn’t — it doesn’t really have a mathematical basis — it is a collection of ideas.” “All good science starts with a (sometimes wacky) idea. But so do the paths to dead ends.”

In my 2015 CP op-ed, “40 Questions to Determine the True Religion,” I presented plenty of reasons to place your faith in the Person who never committed a single sin. Multiverse conjecture, on the other hand, is not a person, and it has no basis in fact, history, math, science or reality. It is pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking and nothing more.

Are you fascinated by the multiverse? If so, what has a make-believe hypothesis ever done to benefit your soul? Belief in the multiverse requires faith without evidence, whereas belief in the Messiah is faith based upon solid historical, prophetic and mathematical evidence. In my CP op-ed, “Christianity is Not Rocket Science,” I wrote, “Man does science with his soul. Your soul includes your intellect, emotions and decision-making ability. And most importantly, your soul is capable of interacting with God … Christianity is not rocket science. God is far more complex than science.”

Who but God could have fine-tuned this universe so precisely? And who loves you more than God loves you? If you have been investing your precious time dreaming about an unlimited number of universes, you would be wise to concentrate your remaining years on this planet by focusing on the Creator of this fine-tuned universe, and upon why He sent His only Son to Earth to suffer and die as a sacrifice for our sins, and then rise from the dead on the third day.

Jesus said, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

That, my friend, is not speculation. It is exactly what God has done to rescue us from sin, death and the devil. Satan is working overtime to tempt people to spend their life dreaming about dubious theories rather than trusting in the Person who created it all in the first place.

“He (Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in Heaven and on Earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:15-17).

These biblical facts about the Second Person of the Trinity were given to us by the same God who made sure that historical Messianic prophecies were written down centuries before they occurred. Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled many specific prophecies 2,000 years ago. You owe it to yourself to take an honest look at "The Top 40 Messianic Prophecies.” Reflect upon the historical events and admit to yourself that no one else could have caused those events to happen the way they did other than God.

Thankfully, history is a trillion times more reliable and provable than the multiverse theory. And God was graciously willing to provide us with rock-solid evidence so that we could base our faith in Jesus upon recorded history and verifiable details, rather than science fiction and a fairy tale.
