3. He was inspired by the story of Jesus to leave his religious family at age 13

Williams revealed that he was a smart child growing up and would do missionary work with his Jehovah’s Witness parents in places like Haiti. At age 12, he received a full scholarship to attend the National Science Academy in Dayton, Ohio, but when he got there, he didn’t think that was the path he wanted to pursue in life. He was also having conflict with his father about the family’s religion, so he decided to go on his own at the age of 13.

“I thought that I was, Jesus was my big homie,” he said. “At this particular point in my life, my thought is that the Bible is the greatest book that's ever been written, that it houses the truth, and that it gives you this story of Jesus, and that I'm supposed to be like Him. So it's already in my head that as soon as I get 13, I'm leaving.”

He said even though he was afraid of leaving home and not being there to help his two younger brothers, he trusted God that his decision would be the right one.

“I was afraid, but I couldn't be that afraid because I knew what had happened with Jesus. I knew how it worked out. I knew that I wasn't in the wrong with how I was feeling. And I knew that I didn't have any bad intentions,” he said. “And so I trusted God that it will work out.”
